By Russ Garner
During
my recent visit to the UK I managed to access a number of S&D photo
collections.
One type of loco kept appearing as S&D when in fact it is from the M&GN
(Midland & Great Northern Railway). This photograph from the Duncan Chandler
Collection, shows a (Bulldog) "class 2" 0-6-0. The difference between
the M&GN to our own S&D class can be seen in the steps; the M&GN
curl at the ends whilst the S&D remain level.
Three other views that I have depict this for Nos. 63, 65 and 66. Reference
material can be seen in "Britain's Joint Lines" by Casserley on page
32.
Yours sincerely,
Russ Garner (SDRT 9457F).
