New Sign at Washford
11 January 2007
Washford has a new sign
Trust volunteer Mac Hares of Brent Knoll has kindly made a new backing board for the familiar GWR cast-iron letters. The old rotten board, probably dating from late Victorian times, had been removed as part of the refurbishment work last October during the jacking up of the signal box and replacement of the wall plate. The board is approximately 10ft x 4ft and jolly heavy, so required a crane to lift it in place. A small team of volunteers hung up the new board in wet and windy conditions on Thursday morning, 11 January 2007. Work on making improvements to the Museum at Washford carry on even though there's no trains running.
