Mike Beale Article to feature nationally

Mike Beale’s article marking the 150th anniversary of the legislation authorising the Dorset Central Railway’s extension to meet the Somerset Central Railway, the constituents of the Somerset & Dorset Railway, is to feature in the January edition of Back Track, due to be published on 6 December. A shorter version of the piece has already appeared on the Trust’s website. For the magazine new photographs from the Trust’s archives have been added, and extended captions written by Russ Garner and David Milton.

Mike Beale is a Trustee of the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust and has been involved with the Trust and its forebears for some thirty years. Mike’s father, grandfather and great-grandfather all worked on the S&D. He has written many articles about the railway over the years, and is an active member of the Trust’s Public Affairs Sub-Committee.

Mike said: “It is a privilege for me to be asked to write a piece about the origins of the much loved S&D. The Trust hopes that it will inspire more people to get involved with keeping these memories alive.”

Mike and his colleagues on the Sub-Committee are also offering to talk to groups about the history of the S&D. Any interested groups should contact Mike via info@sdrt.org.
