Masbury station to be restored
The old Somerset & Dorset Railway station at Masbury, a private house since closure, has recently been purchased by a new owner. He plans to restore the station to its pre-closure appearance over the next four or five years. This includes rebuilding the signal box, which was replaced by a modern extension to the main house after closure. Colleagues at Midsomer Norton have been advising on the detail of the refurbishment.
The picture (courtesy Julian Jefferson) shows the buildings earlier in 2007 with the trackbed between the platforms cleared of vegetation and infill.
Readers are particularly asked to note that the owner wishes to stress that this is a private project on private property. There may be opportunities for guided visits organised by SDRHT in the future, but, in the meantime, please do not trespass or otherwise intrude on the property.
