89 Stars at Bitton
Avon Valley Railway ran its gala through the last week of October, and this year there was a special attraction for Somerset & Dorset Railway fans - the visit of
7F No. 53809, from the Midland Railway Centre.
"89", as many call her, graced the track at Bitton at the head of service trains and two evening specials, as well as two railway experience courses.
The Trust's very own Brian Smith worked on the engine as a footplateman during the week, and also took a number of evocative photographs, shown below.
Also, our Museum Curator is pictured visiting Bitton with his daughter Louise for a brake van ride, and our Publicity Officer tried to maintain his reputation for not getting his hands dirty whilst driving and firing on one of the footplate experience courses (note the large gloves in the accompanying illustration!).
