LMS D1671 Mineral Wagon - click to enlarge for more detail
Some 31,000 of these wagons were built by the LMS at Earlestown and Derby, and for the LMS by private builders, between 1924 and 1940. They were very similar to the RCH 1923 Standard 12 ton mineral wagon design. As well as the LMS, the LNER also adopted the design as the standard mineral wagon - number built unknown, but at least 6,000. In addition, an estimated 234,000 of the RCH 1923 Standard design were built by the trade for private owners between 1923 and 1940.
From 1924 to 1936, these wagons would have been painted in the standard LMS wagon grey, with large 'LMS' lettering in white, except in the period 1935-1936 when the lettering became much smaller and was confined to the lower left of the body. From May 1936, body colour was changed to bauxite, with the same lettering style. 607324 was probably built c.1937, so would have been in bauxite.
One mystery is that the Washford wagon on page 6 of Swift & Delightful No.1 appears to be numbered 607324, which was within a lot of 1000 wagons to be numbered 607000-607999 scheduled for 1937 or 1938 which was apparently not built!
