JOINT SALUTE FOR OLYMPIC TORCH AS CROWDS TURN OUT AT WASHFORD
Washford Station was in celebratory mood as crowds turned out to watch the Olympic Torch pass through the village.
In a joint initiative the Somerset & Dorset Trust and the West Somerset Railway ensured that the Torch got a warm welcome and send off on its journey through the UK. A banner wishing Team GB best wishes from the Trust and the Railway was put up on the station railings and will remain there throughout the Olympics.
A scheduled train from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, hauled by Norton Manor, paused at the station to allow passengers to alight and get a grandstand view of the passing of the Torch from the platform.
